"Obviously Chat GPT made a lot of people realize how close the next stage of AI is," says Tatiana Cirisano, an analyst for U.K.-based Midia Research. "But it's not as if we haven't been living with AI in our daily lives for years, and even in music-making. It's been a steady progression." However, one area where most parties do see a threat is in music library services that provide royalty-free "background" music to content producers. "Royalty-free music libraries came about in the first place for content creators who couldn't afford to license popular music, or when the labels and publishers won't take the time to license something to a smaller creator," Cirisano says. "There are many artists who earn income by creating production music, but now AI is taking that over."

It may sound like a lot of money to dole out, but the gaming of Amazon reviews can be big business: According to an analysis by the e-commerce consultant Pattern, a one-star increase on an Amazon listing can pump up sales by as much as 26 percent, which is why so many sellers are juking the stats. According to the fraudulent-review-detection service Fakespot, around 42 percent of 720 million Amazon reviews assessed in 2020 were bogus. The review fraud is not distributed equally - with more scams in the $15 to $40 range of products, where brand names aren't a necessity. Think home goods and cheap-ish tech products that consumers don't expect to last forever. "When we look at categories where you can start drop-shipping a product and slapping on a logo and competing with other people, those have a lot of fraud," says Saoud Khalifah, founder of Fakespot. The most fraud-proof sector? "Books. You cannot fake a really detailed review talking about a book." Things you buy through our links may earn Vox Media a commission.

...so true! If I didn't know the consequences for sellers I could find myself doing the same thing, people unwittingly put these reviews down not really knowing the consequences and who it hurts so I think we can't just point the finger at a potential competitor. You are not getting anywhere with this and everyone suffers something similar at some point. I had a customer who wanted to return a bespoke item. I said they couldn't so they posted a negative review on the product and then put an inauthenticity claiming the product is not genuine.
